But the Greatest is Love!

1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

I picked this verse to end our movie Faith, Hope & Love. I wanted to show that Faith and Hope are very important, but, as St. Paul stated, it is Love that carries the day.

As a parent, raising three boys with my wife, oftentimes I’d wonder if I was making the correct parental decisions.  As a parent, you don’t want to be too stern and you, also, don’t want to be too lenient.  Early on, I found the answer was to lead with love. A child may not like your parenting decisions, but they will always understand if it is delivered with love.

The same holds true with everyone in our lives. People know when you are delivering your message with love. 

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away – the day when we celebrate all of the people in our lives who we love: significant others, family, friends, kids, coworkers, classmates, and even ourselves!

Imagine how different the world would be if we treated each other like it were Valentine’s Day every day of the year.

It would probably be wonderful, right? The world would be a much more positive place.

Feeling and expressing our love for others starts within ourselves. Society makes us feel that we are selfish or self-absorbed if we love ourselves, but that’s so far from the truth. Loving ourselves is the best way that we can express our love for God because we are showing Him that we appreciate the work He has done within us.

Going back to raising children, I have often noticed that parents who are happier with themselves are happier with their children.

We have to love who we are—who God made us to be—and accept His love before we can love others. Once we have done that, we can go out into the world and spread His love to others.

If you’re not sure where to begin, try starting in your own home. Encourage “I love you” and all of its synonyms to flow freely within your household. Foster an atmosphere of love.

Once you’ve made that positive change within your home, you can work on sharing your love with the rest of the world.
